Sammy Miller honoured as ‘true’ trial legend

Sammy Miller, eleven times British Champion and winner of over 1,400 events worldwide, was honoured last month (November 2018) as a ‘true’ Trial Legend. Fifty years on from his victory in the 1968 European Championship on a Bultaco, Sammy was presented with a trophy as the first FIM European Champion.

The presentation was made at a ‘lunch-fiesta’ hosted by Snr Oriol Puig Bultó for trials riders who began their careers prior to 1986. Also in attendance were Dougie Lampkin, his mother Isobel, Alan (‘Sid’) Lampkin, John Lampkin, Mick Andrews and Steve Saunders to name but a few.

Before lunch the group visited a small exhibition of the most representative trial motorcycles from 1965 onwards, including a Bultaco Sherpa T ‘Sammy Miller’ Replica similar to the machine pictured below.

The Sammy Miller Museum in Hampshire is home to a fantastic collection of fully restored motorcycles, including factory racers and exotic prototypes. Enthusiasts take note, this is what Sammy calls “a living museum” as nearly all of the exhibits are maintained in full running order.
