To mark their 90th anniversary, Ducati are producing this, the limited edition Ducati 1299 Panigale S Anniversario. An exclusive preview was given to those lucky enough to be attending World Ducati Week 2016 (1-3 July 2016) at “Marco Simoncelli” Misano World Circuit by none other than two-time MotoGP World Champion Casey Stoner.
Available from Ducati dealerships starting in the second half of July (exact dates are country specific), the limited edition Ducati 1299 Panigale S Anniversario will feature a bespoke colour scheme and new technological features.
Styling and chassis
Inspired by Ducati’s own race bikes, the Ducati 1299 Panigale S Anniversarios’ red, white and black colour scheme is complemented by the gold of their 3-spoke forged alloy wheels. Each of the 500 bikes in the limited edition run features a top triple clamp milled from a billet of solid aluminium and laser-etched with its unique production number.
Like all Panigale models, the Anniversario uses an aluminium monocoque frame and the Superquadro engine as a stressed member. Steering head inserts (also milled from a billet of solid aluminium) move the front wheel forward by 5mm giving the Anniversario chassis geometry identical to the Panigale R.
Electronic rider aids
Gadget-wise, the Ducati 1299 Panigale S Anniversario is a TLA (three letter acronym) enthusiast’s utopia. In addition to Bosch Cornering ABS, Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) for rapid clutchless shifting through the ‘box, Engine Brake Control (EBC) for optimal stability under extreme turn-in conditions, Ducati Electronic Suspension (DES) and Thin Film Transistor (TFT) instrumentation, it also features the brand new Ducati Traction Control (DTC) and Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) – I kid you not.
The bike also sports Öhlins Smart EC semi-active suspension, an event-based control system that uses stepper motors to modify the suspension set-up on the fly to improve cornering grip, stability, braking, turn-in, handling and riding comfort.
Really pushing home the bike’s sporting credentials, each one is supplied with a racing kit comprised of an Akrapovič racing exhaust in titanium, billet aluminium mirror block-off plates, and a cover for the hole created when removing the number-plate holder for track days. On a more practical note, a battery charger is also included to top up the levels of the light-weight lithium battery.
